Dr. L. David Patterson has always had a passion for education, finance, and helping others. This passion led to his impressive career in both the public and private sectors. Dr. Patterson has over 25 years of professional experience in Real Estate, Finance, and Business Consulting, holding 10 licenses in the financial services industry including: Series 7, 6, 63, 66, and 26 securities licenses, Life & Health Licenses, Property & Casualty Licenses, and Real Estate Broker’s License. Dr. Patterson earned his Associate’s Degree in English from El Camino Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from USC, a Master’s Degree in Organizational Development, and a PhD in Business Psychology. For the past 20 years, Dr. David Patterson has been deeply involved in his community of Hawthorne, volunteering his me and expertise to various non-profits and organizations such as the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce, the Hawthorne Economic Development Council, and the Hawthorne Teen Center. For 11 years, Dr. Patterson served the City of Hawthorne as an elected representative, initially as its first elected African-American City Treasurer, from 2013-2020, and then as Council member from 2020 to 2024. During his tenure as City Treasurer, Dr. Patterson made fiscal responsibility his priority, and transformed how the City of Hawthorne invests its reserves. As Councilmember, Dr. Patterson brought Hawthorne its first Dog Park, Introduced the Hawthorne 311 app, launched its Digital newsletter, as well as played a key role in organizing community events like Hawthorne’s homebuyer workshop, the annual Community Clean-Up Day, Theater in the Park, and the Youth Basketball Academy in partnership with the Hawthorne Police Department. David currently serves as the Chief Deputy Treasurer for the City of Carson, overseeing a $200 million dollar portfolio.
