James Arnold, Jr. is a seasoned Commercial and Intellectual Property Attorney with more than two decades of experience across corporate law, intellectual property strategy, and executive leadership. His career includes legal roles within three Fortune 500 companies and serving on the executive team of a subsidiary of the world’s largest chemical company. Most notably, he led the Intellectual Property function at a Fortune 1000 company and currently serves as Managing Counsel for the $1 billion/year Ingredient Business Unit at W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S., best known for its iconic GORE-TEX® brand. He is the co-founder of Sigma Cares Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit based in New Castle County, Delaware, dedicated to delivering social services and educational opportunities to underserved communities. James also serves as a Trustee and Vice-Chair of the Audit Committee for the Luskin Orthopaedic Institute for Children, a UCLA Health affiliate and one of the leading pediatric orthopedic hospitals in the Western U.S. Additionally, he contributes his expertise on the boards of the National Council on Patent Practicum, which advocates for increased minority representation in the patent field, and the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Inspired by his young daughter with Down Syndrome, he serves on the board of Includ(ED), a San Diego-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting the holistic development of every child—regardless of disability—through personalized educational care. An entrepreneur at heart, James co-founded a real estate investment firm focused on acquiring and renovating properties in the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas. He has also advised multiple D.C.-area startups, including Halen Technologies and Homeplete. James holds a J.D. from Howard University School of Law, an LL.M. in Business Transactions from the University of Alabama School of Law, an MBA from LSU Shreveport, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Biotechnology Engineering from UCLA, and a B.A. in Chemistry from Talladega College.
